Less Shoveling. Less Winter Maintenance.
EasyHeat® Sno*Melter® G-Mats provide a convenient, reliable solution for melting snow and ice on driveways, walkways, entrances, and other outdoor paved surfaces. Designed to deliver consistent heat across designated areas, these preassembled electric heating mats help reduce snow accumulation and the need for shoveling or chemical deicers.
Available in 18-inch and 36-inch widths, G-Mats offer a practical solution for straightforward layouts and larger paved areas. Their preassembled design simplifies cable placement and helps maintain consistent heating coverage during installation.
Engineered for 50 watts per square foot, G-Mats are designed for installation beneath concrete, asphalt, or compatible paver surfaces. Multiple mats can be incorporated into a larger snow melting system and operated through compatible automatic or manual controls.
Whether you're building a new driveway, replacing a walkway, or improving access to your home or business, Sno*Melter® G-Mats offer a convenient way to make winter maintenance easier.
Best for: Driveways, walkways, entrances, and paved outdoor areas where consistent snow and ice melting coverage is desired.
Installing Your Sno*Melter® G-Mats
A Little Planning Makes All the Difference
EasyHeat® Sno*Melter® G-Mats are designed to be installed beneath outdoor surfaces, providing a convenient way to help reduce snow and ice buildup during winter weather.
Proper planning and installation are essential for safe, reliable performance. Before getting started, review the manufacturer's installation instructions and work with your installer and qualified electrician to make sure your system is properly designed.
Preparing for Installation
Plan Your Heating Area
Determine where you'd like snow and ice melting coverage. Position the mats to provide the intended coverage while maintaining the required spacing. Heating mats must never overlap, and heating cables must never be cut.
Allow for Proper Installation Depth
As a general rule, cover G-Mats with a minimum of 2 inches and a maximum of 3-1/2 inches of concrete. This falls within the manufacturer's approved range. For asphalt or paver installations, follow the manufacturer's specific installation requirements for those surfaces.
Plan for Expansion Joints
Expansion joints allow outdoor surfaces to move as temperatures change. Follow the manufacturer's requirements for crossing these joints, including the 20-foot limitation on heating cable routed through expansion joints.
Consider Drainage
Melting snow needs somewhere to go! Plan for proper drainage before pouring concrete to help prevent water from collecting and refreezing.
Electrical Connections & Controls
Each mat includes non-heating power leads that connect the heating system to its electrical supply.
These leads are routed from the heated surface to an appropriate junction box. System controls and contactors must be installed indoors or in properly rated enclosures.
Your qualified electrician will determine the electrical requirements and select appropriately sized controls and contactors for each heating zone.
Have an Irregularly Shaped Area?
G-Mats work well in many outdoor layouts, but some spaces may benefit from the added flexibility of Sno*Melter® SMK heating cable.
SMK cable can help accommodate areas where standard mats aren't the best fit. Keep in mind that SMK cable kits are intended for concrete and paver installations, not asphalt.

Important Installation Reminder
Always follow the EasyHeat® installation instructions supplied with your product. These contain essential requirements for cable placement, spacing, electrical connections, surface construction, and safe operation.
