Automatic Snow Melting. Simple, Reliable Control.
The EasyHeat® Sno*Melter® SA-1 Automatic Controller takes the guesswork out of snow and ice melting. With built-in temperature and moisture sensors, it automatically activates your snow melting system when winter conditions are detected, so you don’t have to switch it on yourself.
Designed for smaller snow melting installations, the SA-1 combines sensing and control in one compact unit, so no separate external sensors are needed. Its automatic operation helps conserve energy by running the heating system only when conditions call for it, with a built-in hold-on period to help complete the melting process after moisture is no longer detected.
The SA-1 can control compatible smaller heating loads directly or operate a properly sized contactor for larger installations, providing flexibility as system requirements increase.
Best for: Smaller residential snow melting systems where simple, automatic temperature and moisture sensing is desired.

Installing Your EasyHeat® SA-1 Snow & Ice Melting Control
Simple, Automatic Control for Your Snow Melting System
The EasyHeat® SA-1 automatically activates your snow melting system when it detects the right combination of cold temperatures and snowfall. Proper installation helps ensure your system responds reliably when winter weather arrives.
Choosing the Right Location
Position the Control Where Snow Can Reach It
Install the SA-1 upright in an open outdoor location where falling snow can reach its built-in sensor.
Keep the sensor away from trees, shrubs, and other obstructions. The control is water-resistant but must never be submerged in water.
Keep the Junction Box Nearby
The SA-1 must be mounted less than 2.5 feet from its electrical junction box. All conduit and junction box connections must be properly sealed to prevent water from entering.
Electrical Connections & Power Requirements
120V Power Supply
The SA-1 operates on 120V AC and must be installed by a qualified electrician.
Choose the Right Connection for Your System
For compatible 120V heating systems, the SA-1 can control a connected heating load of up to 16 amps directly.
For larger systems or systems using 240V heating equipment, the SA-1 can activate a properly sized contactor that switches power to the heating mats or cables.
Your electrician will determine the appropriate electrical connections, contactor requirements, and required circuit protection.
How Your SA-1 Works
Automatic Operation: No Programming Required
The SA-1 automatically activates your heating system when snowfall is detected and the outdoor temperature is below approximately 38°F.
After snowfall stops, the controller continues operating for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to help dry the heated surface.
These operating settings are built into the controller and do not require customer programming.
Keeping Your Sensor Ready for Winter
Before each winter season, inspect the SA-1 for damage and make sure the snow sensor surface is clean and unobstructed.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for safely cleaning the sensor, including disconnecting power before maintenance.
Important Installation Reminder
The SA-1 must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the EasyHeat® installation instructions and applicable electrical codes.
Always review the manufacturer's instructions for mounting, wiring, electrical load limits, circuit protection, and safe operation.
