Clearer Steps. Less Winter Maintenance.
EasyHeat® Sno*Melter® Step Mats provide a convenient solution for reducing snow and ice accumulation on outdoor stairways. Specifically designed for stair installations, these factory-assembled heating mats help keep steps accessible during winter weather while reducing the need for shoveling and chemical deicers.
Designed for standard 8-inch-deep treads, Step Mats are available in configurations for two or three steps, with widths of 3 or 6 feet. Their preassembled design simplifies installation and provides consistent heating coverage across the designated stair surfaces.
Step Mats can be integrated with compatible Sno*Melter® controls and contactors for convenient operation, including automatic activation when winter conditions are detected.
Whether installed at a residential entrance, commercial building, or outdoor stairway, Sno*Melter® Step Mats offer a practical way to improve winter accessibility and reduce maintenance.
Best for: Outdoor stairways with compatible tread dimensions where reliable snow and ice melting is desired.
Installation Note: Heating elements are factory-sized and must not be cut or shortened. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
Installing Your Sno*Melter® Step Mats
A Little Planning Makes All the Difference
EasyHeat® Sno*Melter® Step Mats are designed for outdoor stairways, providing a convenient way to help reduce snow and ice buildup on steps during winter weather.
Proper placement and installation are essential for safe, reliable performance. Before getting started, review the manufacturer's installation instructions and work with your installer and qualified electrician.
Placing the Mats
Place each tread mat so the heating cable stays within the walking surface of the step.
Step Mats are factory-sized for the stair layout. The heating elements must not be cut or shortened.
Embedding the Mats
Embed each Step Mat using the same concrete detail used for Sno*Melter® G-Mats. As a general rule, cover the mats with a minimum of 2 inches and a maximum of 3-1/2 inches of concrete. This falls within the manufacturer's approved range.
Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for the stair assembly.
Electrical Connections
Each set includes a 10-foot non-heating cold lead. Bring that lead to an appropriate junction box.
Step Mats can be connected to the same snow-melt zone as adjacent walk mats when the electrical load allows. Your qualified electrician will confirm the load and select the controls and circuit for the zone.
Important Installation Reminder
Always follow the EasyHeat® installation instructions supplied with your product.
Never cut, shorten, or modify the heating elements. Have all electrical connections completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable codes.
